| The "New" Florida Cemetery, which dates from 1835, contains many interesting stones, including that of George Washington Gilbert, the hermit of Ridgefield. The cemetery is at the intersection of Route 7 and Simpaug Turnpike. Notice the large rock on the ground beyond the gate: It's one of many dislodged over the years by errant automobiles hitting the stonewall. |
